The entwined serpents of Sarman and Sarmoung refer to the mystic, sufi brotherhood said to have existed in Asia.
Most investigations into Sarman or Sarmoung will inevitably lead to Gurdjieff, the Greek/Armenian spiritual leader. One of the ideas he was most known for was his focus on the Enneagram, which described several stages of spiritual development and ascension through its nine stages, or "shocks".
Sarman and Sarmoung are often synonymous names describing the brotherhood, yet in this example, it implies that there are two strains or threads to the brotherhood. In looking deeper into the story of Gurdjieff's search to find this group of mystics, there is subtle implication of this, although I have yet to find confirmation. Sarman means either "bee" or "he who preserves the doctrine of Zoraster".
Here is a full description:
"The word can be interpreted in three ways. It is the word for bee, which has always been a symbol of those who collect the precious 'honey' of traditional wisdom and preserve it for further generations. A collection of legends, well known in Armenian and Syrian circles with the title of The Bees, was revised by Mar Salamon, a Nestorian Archimandrite in the thirteenth century. The Bees refers to a mysterious power transmitted from the time of Zoroaster and made manifest in the time of Christ.... Man is Persian meaning as "the quality transmitted by heredity" and hence a distinguished family or race. It can be the repository of an heirloom or tradition. The word sar means head, both literally and in the sense of principal or chief. The combination sarman would thus mean the chief repository of the tradition." Yet another possibility was "those whose heads have been purified", in other words: the enlightened".
Of interest to me here, is how "sar" is meant to symbolize "head". I've spent some time researching and writing about the connection to the head, or skull, http://mysteriouswritings.com/the-skull-on-the-tomb-the-rose-on-the-cross/.
Of further interest are the words referring to an "heirloom". As we find later, there is an "heirloom" mentioned in Maranatha, as being the grail cup of Joseph, the heirloom of Benjamin.

"until as with the mortal frame the power restored that flesh through the value of gold":
Or to put it another way, it entwined the two serpents for 7 years until the power restored the mortal body through the power of Gold.
Therefore, something relative to the Golden Mean, perhaps as described in the PDFs as the variance between the center of Male and Female being either right above, or right below, the navel. The power of the entwined serpents, or the caduceus, can "restore" the mortal, the physical being.
I am again reading this as a ascension of the human condition from the lower world to the higher, divine world.
The theme of the navel and the center being just above or below is related, I believe, to the Vesica Piscis. This will apply to image #5 and I will cover more thoughts on this when I get to it in the image section.

The significance of seven, on one level, is related to the Five classical planets, with the inclusion of the Sun and Moon.
It is also the number of reeds that Pan has in his pipe. Pan, as I have proposed elsewhere, is representative of the human character in it's "base" or "un-evolved" state. He is half animal and half man.
There are seven days in a week, which also corresponds to the 5 planets with inclusion of the Sun and Moon.
There of course might be other significance to the number 7 in Maranatha, but since it is present in the original story of Tiresias, it is perhaps not an entirely necessary component to the puzzle. Not sure just yet.

Such was its wealth that the gods gave the caduceus as a key to a single god who could travel through the three worlds. The messenger.
The "three worlds":
The PDFs released after the puzzle's close refers to the three worlds that Tiresias had traveled through as being "Male, Hermaphrodite, and Female". In alchemical terms, male is typically Solar in character (reason, intellect), female is Lunar (subconscious, natural responses), and the Hermaphrodite (Hermes + Aphrodite) is the resulting "chemical marriage".
Symbolically speaking, this could also refer to the form of the Vesica Piscis. The circle made in the middle could represent the "hermaphroditic" state.

worked like a charm, thank you Hayward!
given Duncan's continued emphasis on Robert Lawlor's work ( http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CB4QFjAAahUKEwiDi8iPy7DIAhXDdh4KHdbxBiM&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.themeasuringsystemofthegods.com%2FRobert%2520Lawlor%2520-%2520Sacred%2520Geometry.pdf&usg=AFQjCNHHyFzIAd1n1szIR5ifcXm5_vmh_g ),
I would conclude that line 9 is referring to the following line..
"In biology, the fundamental role of geometry and proportion becomes even more
evident when we consider that moment by moment, year by year, aeon by aeon,
every atom of every molecule of both living and inorganic substance is being
changed and replaced. Every one of us within the next five to seven years will have
a completely new body, down to the very last atom."
